Icon has nothing to do with post, sadly, I just wanted to use it :)

- I am enjoying my break from writing. I am still keeping up with tags on a more or less daily basis but it's nice to not feel chained to my computer the way I did in the early part of the month and since I'm still getting to thread, I don't feel like I'm letting anyone down.

- I am still makeup blogging in earnest even though I am massively behind on reviewing new things I've purchased. I had a little acne right around my mouth so I haven't felt comfortable doing any lip swatches of my new lipsticks with Giant Pimples of D00m. I seem to be healing up, though, since I took two days off wearing makeup this week.

- As Winter Is Coming, my skin has decided to do this strange thing where my forehead and chin are still oily as hell and my cheeks are like the Sahara. Have been trying new combinations of cleansers/moisturizers to combat this but progress is slow.

- My left thumbnail refuses to grow out and has ridges and is genuinely ick. Any suggestions on strengtheners? I've been using OPI Nail Envy on my other nails and it works great but that one hates me utterly.

- My Jack O'Neill app is written but I will need to remind myself to ask for an extension on debuting (provided it is approved) since I want to do either Christmas or NYE but want to send the app early on as to not inconvenience modly-types in the middle of their finals. Do you have thoughts on when it would be better to send it, Melly?

- CHRISTMAS IS COMING.

A couple of things I've used:
Skin cream that's used to repair cracked skin like heels. Just a drop and make sure you get your cuticles,
Any oil product where the main ingredient is one of the following: avocado oil, almond oil, jojoba oil. I've used just straight almond oil with decent results. In a pinch, I've used olive oil. (The almond just smells fabulous, especially if you have essential oils to add to it.)

The long and the short of it is you don't have to spend a lot of $$ on specialty finger oils - anything that you would use on really super dry skin, or even your scalp will work for nails.

Internally, eat jello and any foods that are high in vitamin E.

Fingernails are like a weird combination of skin and hair. Just like hair, having a healthy scalp is half the battle, and the base, right under the cuticles, drys out really fast even if you use hand lotion regularly. And like skin it can be just a affected by the environment - usually the drier winter air.

If you're going to use a hand creme, here's how I suggest using it. Put a little at the base of each nail and let it sit while you put some on the rest. Then rub it into the nailbed and along the nail. THEN use some on your hands as a whole.

I have mild nail psoriasis (which was a lot worse when I was in HS than it is now), so my nails can have all kinds of issues. My thumbnails especially so I know lots of home tricks and more homemade-type remedies because I've never had the $$$ to spend on the commercial oils and fancy stuff. I had to find things I could multi-task with.

I'm the only one with finals, so it should be fine sending it now!

YESSSS.

I made it my default because my Ben Whishaw problem has grown exponentially over the last couple of months.

I'm loving your makeup blogging.

My skin is being horrid now that it's gotten cold. I feel like I'm turning into a lizard creature. lol.

I've always used straight oil on my nails. Jojoba's closest to what your body produces but something like olive oil's a bit thicker which is nice plus I'm assuming you already have some. Shea butter or any such would work too. The trick is just to keep your nails from drying out and to keep water from working itself into weak spots since that's generally what makes them crack in the corners and such. As for the ridges, nail buffers are my bff. Granted I like to shine mine up since I don't paint them, but that won't work so well for you.

Ugh. Christmas. Can we skip it this year?
