I always get thrown off by stuff like this, too. Any time I read something set in Chicago that wasn't written either by someone who lives here or who has done their research, I cringe and get kind of thrown out of the book.

I also read a book which was set in the area where I grew up and I spent a significant amount of time Googling places names and locations because nothing about the story felt like "home".
